On Sunday, 22 November 2015, the Heilig-Kreuz church in Munich’s district Giesing as part of a solemn worship with subsequent ceremonial act reopened its doors: After four years closure due to an extensive interior renovation, the newly renovated neo-Gothic church space of Giesing’s cathedral shone in a splendor.

Giesings oldest Catholic parish church is one of the famous neo-Gothic churches in Munich. At the highest church square of the town, the glorious Lord´s house raises and forms the cityscape of the capital city with its impressive church spire.

Substantial damages to the church interior, however, required an extensive restoration from 2011 to 2015.

Surrounded by grandiose musical design with participation of the parish association’s choirs and the festival service of the archbishop’s vicar-general of Munich and Freising, Peter Beer, finally the Heilig-Kreuz church ceremonially reopened on 22 November 2015.

With gorgeous neo-Gothic altars, sculptures and window glazings, the light-flooded cathedral developed a very special atmosphere at the opening. The impressive church’s exterior facade also illuminated as an impressive light sculpture.

As part of the extensive interior renovation Phoenix Professional Audio was responsible for the complete PA concept of the acoustically challenging historic building.

For an outstanding acoustic result, the digital line arrays DIGIVOICE-110.DSP2B and DIGIVOICE-330.DSP2B with the latest Beam steering technology have been installed in the church. Thanks to their slim design and special powder coating, the digital sound columns were integrated very inconspicuously the spectacular architecture. Together with the passive speaker systems K4-60N, the digital sound columns provide even sound coverage in the entire church.

The main target of the acoustic concept was the perfect fusion of the applied technology with the inner architecture of the church.

For the almost 80 meter long nave, only 4 digital “steerable line array” speaker systems DIGIVOICE had to be used. Thanks to the electronic sound control (“beam steering technology”), the slim column speakers ensure even sound coverage in the entire sound reinforcement area. The integrated beam steering technology reduces ceiling and wall reflections to a minimum and improves speech and music transmission enormously.

Since the vertical beam angle is controlled exclusively electronically , the digital DIGIVOICE sound columns can be positioned flat against the wall and are therefore very inconspicuous. With their elegant appearance and the special powder coating in the same color as the church columns, the sound columns “merge” almost completely with the church architecture.

The sound columns are powered by a AMX-DSP4ACD automatic preamp with built-in WEB server.

Inside the Heilig-Kreuz church there are two side altars and three upper galleries which have been equipped with K4-60N neodym speaker systems, which are in turn fed with signal by the digital power amplifiers WM-200DT.

The newly developed Phoenix stand microphones with bottom flange MEGZ-5GS, the gooseneck microphones MEG-1-450 and the multichannel radio systems of company Sennheiser ensure a perfectly clear sound pickup.

Besides the revival of the primary space character of the construction time, also an additional use of the space for exhibitions and concerts has been created.

The modern speaker system in the church has been produced by Phoenix Professional Audio using the latest sound technology exactly suitable for this versatile room use.
