Digitization in churches — The motto of Phoenix’ fair presentation

The GLORIA 2018, the only church fair in the German-speaking area, is a trade fair for current trends in church furnishing products and services. The exhibition took place this year from 15 to 17 February 2018 in the exhibition center Augsburg. 90 exhibitors present their new products to more than 4,200 visitors. The Phoenix Professional Audio team was also present as an exhibitor, giving visitors the opportunity to discover the latest developments in the field of digital sound reinforcement for churches

Podium talks, concerts and the short lecture by Phoenix PA on the subject of “Church Sound Systems” on the Gloria stage were broadcast live on the Christian TV station EWTN and in the internet livestream on www.ewtn.de. The Catholic radio Horeb also transmitted Gloria talks live.

The digitization of the church  is playing an increasing role. Many churches around the world have already recognized that the use of digital sound systems is an investment in the future and surprisingly facilitates everyday church life.

At the booth of the audio specialists from Phoenix PA, GLORIA visitors were able to actively witness the digital future of church sound: from the latest developments in LED microphones with touch sensors for ambo and altar to digital church bells with compositional function and state-of-the-art DSP Automatic Mixers with touch screen – numerous market novelties and innovations for the church of tomorrow have been presented.

Touch screen – The amplifier is controlled directly by touching the screen

Touch wanted! – At the Phoenix PA booth, visitors of the GLORIA 2018 were able to experience digitization in churches “up close”:

With the new fully automatic DSP mixing amplifier with touch-screen, Phoenix Professional Audio will soon launch the “church amplifier of tomorrow” on the market. The special feature of the new amplifier: programming and operation can be controlled directly by touching the screen.

The model, which is still in the final stages of development, is a fully automatic digital automatic power mixer with freely programmable or automatic switching of presets 1 and 2 (calendar function), programmable priority levels for conference modes, optional remote control for remote presets and exemplary complete equipment.

Phoenix PA presented its latest ambo microphone: the gooseneck microphone with touch sensor for LED lighting. The extremely simple operation makes the microphone the ideal choice for use in church service: To turn on and off the light source simply touches the touch point. Voice recording and light function operate completely independently.

Ideal in combination with the microphone stand MEGA-2A with Plexiglas shelf.

Also the TV team of Bayerischer Rundfunk visited our booth to report on the electronic church bells GABRIEL-G6 (contribution in the evening show of the BR from 16.2.2018).

State-of-the-art technology that preserves tradition: the system is the perfect replacement for real bells and is used where real heavy bells are no longer allowed to swing due to static problems (such as ailing church towers) or during a bell tower renovation. The real church bells are e.g. recorded one last time and played through the system GABRIEL-G6. So the community does not have to give up the accustomed bell sounding during a renovation.

The digital church bells GABRIEL-G6 offer a very authentic bell ringing and can be operated by the new touch panel particularly easy on the touch of the screen. With the help of the new mixing function, the user can easily assemble his own bell peal composition. The electronic church bells also offer 4/4 hours, annual, weekly and daily programs.

ZP-SLIM series – The upper speakers can be rotated steplessly up to 180˚

The trade fair visitors were especially interested in the procession systems of Phoenix PA. Especially at Easter and Corpus Christi the mobile amplifier systems ZP-40 SLIM and ZP-43 SLIM are the ideal companions for every church procession.

The upper loudspeakers can be rotated up to 180 degrees, thus enabling front and rear sonication of the procession.

The ZP-SLIM Prozessionsanlagen are characterized by their low weight, compact dimensions, very easy operation and a clear powerful sound.

With the new BT receiver, music and pre-made speeches can be easily wirelessly transferred from any Bluetooth enabled device (such as a mobile phone) to the system and played back.

ZP-SLIM series – Models ZP-40 SLIM and ZP-43 SLIM

The brilliant sound and surprisingly low weight of the ZP-4T procession system impressed the visitors at the Phoenix booth. With the compact system, very large areas within a radius of up to 150 m can be effectively sounded and with very good voice reproduction.

The universally applicable power pack is ideal for smaller processions or for smaller church services, funeral speeches and much more.

DIGIVOICE series – Various sizes & RAL colors available

Another highlight at the booth were the electronically controllable DIGIVOICE sound columns from Phoenix. The software-controlled line radiators were developed for sound transmission in rooms with complex acoustics. Thanks to state-of-the-art beam-steering technology, even in very large reverberant naves, the use of only a few DIGIVOICE sound columns (see, for example, the sounding of the Church Gnadenkirche in Simbach am Inn with only 2 pillars) ensures constant sound coverage throughout the entire sound range.

Up to 16 independent DSP channels, each with their own Class D power amplifier, allow a very precise electronic loudspeaker control – completely without mechanical alignment.

The DIGIVOICE series includes various models, which differ in particular in dimensions, beam angle and volume range. Based on the interior design and the acoustics of the church, optics and technology are individually adapted. The DIGIVOICE digital sound solumns can also be powder-coated in the desired special color (RAL).

DIGIVOICE series – Directivity balloon

On Saturday, 17.2.2018, the 17th church fair GLORIA came to an end. It was a great exhibition!

The Phoenix team would like to thank all visitors for the many great discussions at our booth, the great interest and numerous nice contacts!

In the following gallery we have put together a few impressions of the GLORIA 2018 for you.
