Project description
Modernization of the existing audio system &
Optimization of the church acoustics
In spring 2024, the PHOENIX Professional Audio team modernized the sound system of St. Michael’s Parish Church in the center of Peiting (Weilheim-Schongau district), which dates back to around 1055, and significantly improved the church’s acoustics.
The prerequisite for the project was to continue using the existing speakers and microphones (from third-party manufacturers). Thus, the parish church’s existing audio system was simply repaired by installing a new church amplifier — a cost-effective and sustainable alternative to a completely new sound system.
In order to achieve better acoustics in St. Michael’s Church, the new digital automatic mixing amplifier PV-DSP-4ACD.9.4.2X from the company’s own brand Phoenix Professional Audio was used: The amplifier, specially developed for acoustically challenging rooms, is equipped with two Class-D power amplifiers and other essential features for reverberation reduction, such as a de-esser (dynamic attenuation of “ess” and sibilants) and Compressor-Expander.
The decisive factor for the acoustic optimization of the existing sound system in the church was ultimately the professional overall system leveling, which the PHOENIX Professional Audio team carried out on-site following a precise acoustic measurement in the room.
PHOENIX Professional Audio, a second-generation family business with 30+ years of expertise, was able to modernise the existing audio system (made by a third party) at St. Michael’s Parish Church using just one new component, a new PHOENIX church amplifier, to such an extent that the speech intelligibility and sound clarity are very close to that of a new sound system – and at a significantly lower financial outlay for the church than if it had been necessary to purchase a completely new system.
